I wanted to find the most still place on earth. In the woods, standing on the edge of water, I wanted to feel so quiet that I could see a sound as a ripple on the water’s surface.
I made this body of work in layers of material that shine and dash the light in optical effects on traditional hand work in fiber and paint. These are made of wood, holographic vinyl, protein dyed/steam set silk, acrylic varnish, interference hue paint, and anything else I feel like trying out.
The ripples I refer to are cymatic waves, water’s response to sound organizing molecules. The ripples were made on a regular sound speaker by resting a saucer with water on it and placing a ring light or two above. I place the shapes of these ripples in the light of a reflective body of water, in the woods, reflecting trees and sky, nature's great community.
